Özet:

This thesis analyses how the European Green Deal (EGD) influences American companies exporting to the European Union (EU). It combines a literature review with quantitative data from Eurostat and the United States International Trade Commission (USITC) covering 2017 to early 2025. The literature shows that the EGD is reshaping global trade by introducing carbon reporting, product design rules and sustainability standards. Carbon-intensive sectors are the most exposed. Also exporters from countries with weaker climate policies face growing compliance pressure. Previous studies rarely focus on the United States, so this thesis adds to the understanding of EU – U.S. trade relations. The data indicates that U.S. exports in affected sectors remain stable or even increase. This can be explained by the early stage of enforcement, since most measures currently require only emissions reporting. This stability is only temporary, as stricter EU rules will gradually increase costs and obligations. The findings highlight that U.S. firms have not yet faced direct trade losses, but future competitiveness will depend on early adaptation. The EGD represents a turning point. Companies that prepare now may benefit from new opportunities, while those that delay risk encountering growing trade barriers.
