Özet:The food culture is a phenomenon that requires studies in different disciplines like anthropology, history, psychology, sociology, health, communication, religion, and gastronomy. Limiting the scope of food culture, the study investigates the relationship between communication sociology, which examines the sociological influence and effects of communication, and food culture. In this context, the study aims to unravel the effects of social media and its users on the transformation of food culture. The study used two research methods, survey, and in-depth interview, on Instagram gourmets and their followers. The survey conducted on Instagram gourmets' followers consisted of 284 females, and 245 males, with 529 participants in total. The sample of in-depth interviews was composed of 5 females and 5 males: a total of 10 Instagram gourmets. The Instagram gourmets' expertise, reliability, and knowledge of food affect their followers' food preferences and eating habits. The study found out that the degree the followers were influenced by th posts of Instagram gourmets is associated with the followers' socio-economic levels and how frequently they use Instagram. Furthermore, Instagram has become a platform for users to show-off their lavish lifestyles or to create perception. While people used to eat food for nourishment, food became an element of entertainment and pomposity. Serving food like performing a show led to the situation that is called food pornography. In this context, globalization and the economic trends that globalization created have transformed the food culture. Instagram is not the cause of it, but the result of it.
