Abstract

The commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) equipment use in military applications is increasing steadily. However, there is a need for evaluation of the COTS equipment to determine whether it complies with the military electromagnetic environmental effects. In this paper, the compliance of COTS equipment in a military environment is assessed from the external RF transmitter effect point of view. The RF susceptibility test methods in MIL-STD-461G RS103 and IEC61000-4-3 are compared. The test setups were modelled and simulated under the same conditions. The simulation results obtained show that the IEC61000-4-3 test setup detects susceptibility at lower electric fields compared to the RS103 test setup.
