Toroids wound from grain-oriented 3% Si-Fe have been widely used for building various types of electromagnetic devices. Although magnetic properties of a typical toroidal core are provided in data sheets, its approximate equivalent parameters are not frequently given. When such devices are used in manufacturing process, their simplified equivalent circuit parameters are required without interruption of production line in case of a system failure. This investigation makes an attempt to estimate these parameters using a simple genetic algorithm method. The obtained results are slightly different from the measured results under sinusoidal excitation at flux densities varied from 1.3 to 1.7 T, 50 Hz. © 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
