Abstract

In this paper, the nonactive part of the apparent power is decomposed into three different components. The qualitative and quantitative analyses show that reactive power component of the power decomposition gives the power of the optimum compensation capacitor under the voltage wave shape of the system. In addition to that, it is seen from the analysis that the unity power factor compensation under nonsinusoidal conditions with a simple capacitor is not a feasible issue due to the powers drawn by the nonlinear variations of the load conductance and susceptance with the frequency.
