Abstract
Research shows that the majority of family owned businesses are less entrepre- neurial, especially after the founder of the business retires/dies. Though it has been agreed on the importance of adopting governance mechanisms and practices for the survival of family businesses, there is still a lack of solidarity and harmony among the family members across generations, which leads to conflicts and causes a major threat to the sustained growth and survival of the business. The aim of this paper is to explore the role of family constitution for transgenerational entre- preneurship in family businesses by examining how family governance practices can strengthen the transgenerational entrepreneurship. In this regard, family con- stitution of a family owned business located in İzmir, was examined and in-depth interviews and exploratory case study analysis from qualitative research methods were applied.
