Abstract:

Since ancient times, fairs have provided a commercial environment for increasing global exports, promoting new products, establishing professional partnerships, and generating financial income. In Türkiye, the fair tradition, which began as a "kermess" during Ottoman times, has now taken its place in a separate sector called fair organization. Trade fairs significantly impact exports. Their role in increasing or decreasing export performance is critical. A company's international success is largely measured by its exports. Export performance reveals whether a company can achieve a sustainable position in foreign markets and its preparedness for global competition. Strong export performance not only provides financial gains; it also offers businesses significant strategic advantages, such as sustainable growth, increased brand strength, and the ability to expand into different areas of international markets. Today, factors such as digitalization and globalization directly impact the measurement and evaluation of exports. Therefore, the concept of exports is being addressed from every perspective, both theoretically and practically, and effective management is crucial for a company's overall success. The software/informatics sector, due to its direct interaction with many industries and service areas, offers a high potential for representation at trade fairs. Sectoral trade fairs, organized both nationally and internationally, offer software companies the opportunity to introduce their products and services to global markets, establish new business partnerships, and increase brand awareness on a global scale. This study examines the definition of fairs, awareness of fair participation, the impact of fair participation on export performance, export performance, and the export performance of fairs in the software/IT sector. Interviews were conducted with software/IT sector representatives who participated in fairs to identify the impact of these companies on export performance, their perspectives on fairs, and the challenges and opportunities encountered in participating in fairs. The aim was to emphasize the importance of fairs for companies exporting in the software/IT sector.
