Abstract:

The furniture sector in Anatolia dates back to the Mesopotamia and Hittite civilizations established in ancient times. The industrialization of furniture production in Turkey began in the 1970s. The furniture industry is the increasing trend in the share of manufacturing industry in Turkey. Office furniture, one of the most demanded product groups in the furniture industry, is used in offices. The emergence of the office concept dates back to ancient times. Sometimes office consists of a large room in the palace of kings, sometimes a section of cathedrals and sometimes a section of the merchants’ house. Office furniture sector in Turkey started to develop after the 1940s and has accelerated this development together with development of the Turkish banking sector in the 1960s. The need for office furniture, which was met most by imports in the 1980s, paved the way for office furniture manufacturers in the 1990s. Turkey which is 12th in the world by 1,2 percent of furniture exporting countries in 2017. In furniture consumption, it ranks 14th in the world. Accordingly, the office furniture sector in Turkey, since 2001, gradually increasing the export value of nontrade deficit has become one of the limited industrial sector. Our research topic helps to collect relevant information by excluding the information that should not be included in the study and limiting it between 2014-2017. Thus, the research will be carried out without deviating from the subject within a certain framework. In this study, analysis of foreign trade volume of foreign trade indices of the office furniture sector in Turkey has been demonstrated with the help of foreign trade balance and foreign trade ratio. All aspects of the office furniture industry in Turkey is demonstrated by using PESTEL and SWOT strategic analysis methods.
