Abstract:

This study, focusing on the international power of the Turkish furniture industry, first discusses and examines various aspects of the concept of competitive power, and then calculates and assesses the competitive power of the Turkish furniture industry between 2005 and 2015, using the Revealed Comparative Advantages method to measure the competitive power. Foreign trade data related to the furniture industry between 2005 and 2015 were collected from the Trade Map database, which is developed by the International Trade Center and based on the Harmonized System classification. For the purpose of this study, Harmonized System (HS) classification was used. Based on this classification, the competitive power of furniture industry (HS Code 94, excluding 9405 and 9406) and its 12 subclasses were assessed for a period of ten years by means of Balassa’s Revealed Comparative Advantages method. Turkey’s competitive power in this sector was analyzed, based on the data obtained. The findings suggest that Turkey’s competitive power is high with regard to the furniture industry in general terms.
