Abstract:

International trade is the most crucial factor that accelerates the phenomenon of "globalization," enabling it to evolve into its current state. The increase in world population, coupled with rising production and the parallel development strategies defined by state authorities, has imparted momentum to the development of global trade. With globalization, the rapidly growing world trade volume, initially a marketplace for states to demonstrate power and define future goals, has gradually transformed into a force that necessitates collective action by states-a force requiring continuity, protection, and susceptible to becoming a threat at any moment. The terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on September 11, 2001, exposed the vulnerability of countries' commercial activities to terrorist attacks. The importance of ensuring the security and uninterrupted sustainability of both national and global trade has taken its place in the political and economic agenda. The need for redesigning security by ensuring the seamless continuation of global trade has compelled countries to move away from physical control mechanisms in the entry and exit of commercial goods, thereby increasing the significance of a trade system based on trust and prestige. In recent years, when examining the course of global trade, adversities such as wars, pandemics, natural disasters, and crises have led to disruptions in the supply chain and issues in procurement due to these unfavorable conditions. As a result, the concept of supply chain sustainability has been brought to the forefront of the world agenda. In Turkey, the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) Status system is implemented with the aim of supporting legal trade, preventing illegal commercial activities, and ensuring the safe conduct of resources for commercial activities. This study provides information about the emergence of the Authorized Economic Operator Status concept, its incorporation into Turkish national legislation, and the requirements for obtaining the Authorized Economic Operator Certificate. The advantages provided by this status are discussed, highlighting the commercial facilitations it offers while attempting to explain its cost-reducing impact on companies' international trade transactions.
